March Golf Club ready to re-open
Social isolation and lack of exercise have been just two of the challenges brought about by the Covid 19 pandemic. With infection rates falling, people are looking forward to a de-escalation in the lockdown measures and that includes the reopening of golf courses.
March Golf Club has been getting ready for this happy event by not only working to present the course as best it can, but also in formulating all the necessary safety measures to adhere to the strict Government guidelines which are designed to protect the safety of players and staff alike.
March’s management committee took the decision to retain the greens staff full time throughout the lockdown. This was partially funded by the generosity of the senior members at the Club who wanted to ensure that the course was not compromised in any way through lack of manpower and attention.
Initially the club will open for members only. This will enable the club to manage a cashless transaction and booked tee times, to comply with the guidelines set down by the Government.
Blue Revell, the head greenkeeper at March says
“After all the heavy rain we had over the winter we needed more time to get all the necessary work done. Usually we must work round our members but instead we have been free to roam. It was very frustrating, having just purchased new greens equipment and not be able to use it because of the weather conditions, but now the investment has paid dividends. The new aerator, tees mower and greens iron have proved their worth and the course and greens have never looked better. We can’t wait to show off our handiwork to members.”
Rob Henshaw, the Club Captain says
“It has been a strange captaincy so far, with no matches and competitions, and looking at a beautiful golf course but not being able to play. We are a club blessed with a loyal and supportive membership and we cannot wait to be able to get together again and just enjoy a round of golf with our friends.
Members can rest assured that we will take all the necessary measures to ensure their safety and enjoyment and a team of marshals will make sure everyone is staying safe. As soon as we have a confirmed date for opening, we will let our members know and update our website and social media sites.”
