Competition Report – Mens Captains 4-ball better ball (Saturday 23rd March)
In the traditional opening club competition of the golfing season, 44 golfers from March Golf Club teed off in near perfect weather conditions. This was the first competition of the year played from the back tees, and the change to a longer course proved quite challenging for many of the pairs.
The winners, with an excellent score of 45 points were Andy Lilley and Tom Sharpe. Second were Hugh McGarvie and Darrell Ladds with a very creditable 42 points, closely followed by Stan Dunn and Mark Crawley with 40 points.
A bottle of wine was presented to the winner of ‘nearest the pin’ on the 162-yard par 3 15th hole. A magnificent shot inside 6 feet secured the prize for Gary Holmes.
Prizes were also awarded to four players (Stan Dunn, Baz Smith, Mark Crawley and Gary Holmes) who secured birdie two’s on the day.
Club Captain, Alan Jones, would like to thank everyone who took part on the day. He would also like to thank the greenkeeping team for presenting the course in such good condition in the early part of the season.
Thanks also go to the team from Classic Catering for the very welcome bacon rolls half way round, to our professional, Alex Oldham, for organising the start sheet and cards and also to our Competitions Secretary, Derek Wisbey, for processing the scores.
