Winners from Lady Captains Day

On the 15th September 24 Ladies took part in Lady Captains Day. Despite having to be rearranged from the original date due to the current pandemic the weather couldn’t have been more glorious with bright blue skies, a gentle breeze and temperatures in the high 20°’s

Despite the extremely fast greens prepared by the greens staff, all the ladies played extremely well in this individual Stableford event and the results were as follows:

1st: Shona Kent – 35 points

2nd: Sandra Russell – 33 points

3rd: Emma Smith – 32 points

Nearest the pin 2nd/11th – Carolyn Morton

Nearest the pin 6th /15th – Jo Rowlett

Nearest the line 8th /17th – Pam Wallis

The Past Captains trophy was also won by Shona Kent

Lady Captain Emma Norman was overwhelmed by the support and generosity of the Lady members and almost £400 was raised on the day for the Lady Captains Charity, the Sue Ryder Thopehall Hospice in Peterborough.

New Handicap rules are coming….

Lady Captain Emma Norman recently attended a World Handicap Seminar to understand more about the new world handicap system that comes into effect on Monday 2nd November 2020.  She said “This was an extremely interesting event run by England Golf explaining more about the new system. Our new ‘Handicap Index’ as it will be called will be the average result of our best 8 cards out of the past 20 returned on a rolling 12 month basis.  So the message being sent out from England golf at the moment is to play as much competitive golf in 2020 as possible to give us all an accurate Handicap Index from November……… …..well I am certainly up for that and I look forward to seeing you all on the course!”

The Captains Drive In

Emma and Rob hit their drives on the first tee in the traditional “Captains Drive In”  followed by a quick 9 hole competition before the bad weather set in again.

The two winners guessing the length of drive and direction were Malcolm George and Paddy O’Connor.

The 9 hole competition was won on countback with 18 points by Peter Ridgeway.

The 58th AGM of March Golf Club

It was lovely see the turn out on a wet and miserable election evening at the Aveling Lounge. We had a very informative evening sharing our progress throughout the year from the outgoing Captain, the Management and our auditors.

The night included the handover and introductions of the new Captains and Vice Captains followed by the Honours Board Trophy presentations.

Rob Henshaw has now taken over as the 2020 Mens Captain of March Golf Club he introduced us to his Vice Captain, Andy Lilley who will a great support to Rob and is also proving to be a great asset to the Management Team.

We finished the evening with trophy presentations and above is a lovely picture of the years winners.

Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall is Emma’s Charity

March Golf Club Ladies Captain for 2020 Emma Norman

Today, we’d like to say a special Thank you Thursday to Emma, the Ladies Captain at March Golf Club 🙏

Emma has kindly chosen to support our hospice over the coming year.

“My chosen charity for the year is Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough as this is where my Dad who passed away in January 2019 spent the last 10 days of his life,” she explains.

“The care he and the rest of my family received was something we will be forever grateful for.”

Thank you for your kind words and support Emma – it is an honour to be there when it matters 💙

We look forward to hearing about your fundraising over the coming months.

Cambridge Evening News and Charity Cheque

On Tuesday 12th November Past Lady Captain 2018 of March Golf Club in 2018, Lydia Molyneux, met with Tammy Swiderski from the East Anglian Air Ambulance.  Lydia wanted to present a cheque for £1,353.75 which was raised during her captaincy year for this important local charity.

Lydia  “I chose to support East Anglian Air Ambulance because I felt that it was a service that any one of us could need at any time, not just for those suffering from ill health. Having lost a close friend in tragic circumstances in 2017, it made me realise how important services like this are to our community. Although the EAAA receives some Government funding, they rely predominantly on the goodwill of the community. If all of us gave £3 per year they would be able to fund their basic needs. Tammy told me that just one helmet costs £2,000, so my donation, will go some way to providing one of those but it is only a small gesture when you consider the demands made upon the service.”

Cambridge Evening News Winter Foursomes

On Tuesday 12th November 2019 Derek Wisbey and Danny Daniel played Peter Mansfield and Micheal Drakakis from Newmarket GC in the first round of the Cambridge Evening News Winter Foursomes competition at Ely GC. The weather was atrocious but the company was really good and the match was played in good spirit.  It was a very close match and a shame somebody had to win but March Golf Club came through to win on the final hole.  The second round will be drawn sometime in December.
