March update from Emma

The ladies annual coffee morning provides an opportunity for the ladies section to meet up socially, to chat, take part in quizzes and plan their competitions for the rest of the year.

It is also a chance to support the lady captain’s charity – this year I have chosen The Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice. Maxine Harper Woods, a community fundraising officer gave an interesting and informative talk on the excellent work and care the hospice provides. Through the coffee morning almost £240 was raised – half of which will go to the charity and the remainder to support activities in the clubs ladies section.

In recent years the money the Ladies section has raised has been used to benefit the club in many different ways. Some examples are:-

  • make over of the Ladies changing room carried out by the ladies and involving painting and re covering of seats
  • tea sets donated for the use of all members
  • £400 donated for the bar area chairs
  • Affiliation fees paid 2015 – 2017
  • £100 donated for the upkeep of the PSI
  • £133.54 donation towards the cost of a hole cutter

In addition, the Ladies fund their England Golf competition events and have contributed towards Ladies CAGU and England Golf fees.

Italian Night – a great success

Over 80 members and guests attended the Italian night – a great opportunity for socialising with friends whilst eating great food, drinking sumptuous wine and listening to Back Two.

Catering was done by the promotions committee – massive thanks to Baz Smith, who skillfully showed his culinary talents with pasta. Many thanks to those who helped out with salads and puddings too, lots of work and pulled together seamlessly by Michal and Alex.

The draw for golf membership was won by lady captain’s charity – Sue Ryder Hospice Thorpe Hall and was auctioned off to raise a fabulous sum for a great cause.

Our next big social event is the spring ball 25th April – get your tickets early to avoid missing out
