Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall is Emma’s Charity

March Golf Club Ladies Captain for 2020 Emma Norman

Today, we’d like to say a special Thank you Thursday to Emma, the Ladies Captain at March Golf Club 🙏

Emma has kindly chosen to support our hospice over the coming year.

“My chosen charity for the year is Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough as this is where my Dad who passed away in January 2019 spent the last 10 days of his life,” she explains.

“The care he and the rest of my family received was something we will be forever grateful for.”

Thank you for your kind words and support Emma – it is an honour to be there when it matters 💙

We look forward to hearing about your fundraising over the coming months.

Troublesome Puddling

Rain Rain and more Rain

Now can you remember back to last summer, when precipitation was a rare occurrence. Well, we can safely announce that normal conditions have resumed.

But our Greens Team are on the case and have plans to improve drainage away from our greens as a priority.  Please can you continue to be patient whilst these works are going ahead,  we will all benefit in the end.

Thatch has always been a problem on our greens and with some help from  specialised machinery, Blue and Ian have a Greens program ready and waiting to improve our greens for the future.

Buggy Shed Owners

Volunteers have also been busy again and we are happy to confirm that after two weekends of work the Buggy shed drainage is now in place.  We are just waiting on the delivery of the matting then this will be laid asap, Thank you for your patience.

For all those Buggy users, you will soon receive a Winter Buggy update from Lydia, I ask you to consider the advisory contents and help us to keep our course open for buggies. Thank you, Baz

Cambridge Evening News and Charity Cheque

On Tuesday 12th November Past Lady Captain 2018 of March Golf Club in 2018, Lydia Molyneux, met with Tammy Swiderski from the East Anglian Air Ambulance.  Lydia wanted to present a cheque for £1,353.75 which was raised during her captaincy year for this important local charity.

Lydia  “I chose to support East Anglian Air Ambulance because I felt that it was a service that any one of us could need at any time, not just for those suffering from ill health. Having lost a close friend in tragic circumstances in 2017, it made me realise how important services like this are to our community. Although the EAAA receives some Government funding, they rely predominantly on the goodwill of the community. If all of us gave £3 per year they would be able to fund their basic needs. Tammy told me that just one helmet costs £2,000, so my donation, will go some way to providing one of those but it is only a small gesture when you consider the demands made upon the service.”

Cambridge Evening News Winter Foursomes

On Tuesday 12th November 2019 Derek Wisbey and Danny Daniel played Peter Mansfield and Micheal Drakakis from Newmarket GC in the first round of the Cambridge Evening News Winter Foursomes competition at Ely GC. The weather was atrocious but the company was really good and the match was played in good spirit.  It was a very close match and a shame somebody had to win but March Golf Club came through to win on the final hole.  The second round will be drawn sometime in December.

New Course Management

Hopefully any member that has played the course recently will see the new paths, ropes and attention to detail of this years winter course management program.

Please can you help our Greens Team to protect our lovely golf course through the wet months and keep to the designated routes and we will all reap the benefits in the Spring and months ahead.  Thank You!

Ladies Golf Academy this Sunday – free session for all newcomers!!

Calling all women, existing, new, intrepid and enthusiastic! This coming Sunday 17th November, midday at March Golf Club, our club Pro Alex is holding a free of charge coaching session specifically for ladies. If you`ve never played before, or do want to rekindle that old golfing bug come along and spend some time with other like minded ladies and receive some professional guidance at the same time. Make new friends, enjoy a fresh social circle and play a great game for the rest of your life. We have no age limit, welcome all abilities and can provide all equipment. All we need is you and a positive attitude.

One of our ladies, Gail, has progressed from absolute beginner to a confident, competent golfer in a very short period of time. She says…

“My husband wanted me to learn golf so we could play together. Just to shut him up I booked some 1:1 lessons with Alex, March Golf Pro, then joined in with the Ladies Academy. In just a short time I`ve won some competitions and got a hole in one!! Made lots of new friends and am completely hooked on golf!”

So we look forward to seeing some new faces just before midday. If you have any questions, queries, require directions or need a welcoming voice please call Alex on 01354 657255 or email
