Summer is in Full Swing

Clarks Trophy and New Lady Member

The Ladies played the re-scheduled Clarks trophy on Thursday 15th August. The winner with 31 points was Brenda Softley, in 2nd place Emma Smith with 29 points who is one of our newest members who has come through the ranks of the Ladies Academy and 3rd with 24 points Carole Wood.

Selby Taylor

The Annual Selby Taylor sponsored competition took place on Saturday 17th August.  The winner for the ladies was Emma Norman with 31 points, in 2nd place Jo Rowlett with 28 points and 3rd place Gail Johnson with 26 points.  Ten ladies took part.  The mens competition was won by Nick Carter with a great 45 points, followed in 2nd place Gary Holmes with 38 points and 3rd place was Roger Watts with 37 points.  Sixty one men took part in the competition.  A presentation was held in the clubhouse early evening.

Club Championship Climax

The 2nd leg of the Mens Championships took place on Sunday 18th August.  The Winner for the nett score was Lewis Hearn and the winner of the gross score was Gary Neugebauer.

Gold Crest Ladies Results

The Ladies played the Gold Crest on Tuesday 6th August.  Gail Arnold won with 1 birdie and 3 pars totaling 35 points and beating Ros Humphrey by 4 points with 31 points who in turn beat Michal Simpson on count back also with 31 points.

Ladies Medal

The Ladies played a Medal on Sunday 11th August.  The winner was Brenda Softley going out in 49 and coming back in 47 beating Jo Rowlett in a card play off both with nett 76.  In third place was Gail Johnson with a nett 79.

Early August Results

Johnson Wins the Johnson Goblets

The Johnson Goblets were played on Monday afternoon. The competition , which was Foursomes format was well supported with 10 pairs competing.  It was a glorious afternoon and the first 3 pairs had the same score, with Paddy O’Connor and Gail Johnson taking first place with 29 points.  Gail came through our Ladies Academy and is now enjoying playing in competitions with the ladies.  Great win for you both.  In second place also on 29 was Derek Wisbey and Brenda Softley, closely followed by Malcolm George and Michal Simpson also on 29 points.  (first photo below). The Johnson Goblets were presented by Sandra Russell (Lady Captain 2019).

Shillings for Goddard & Pescud

The Seniors played the Shilling Shield pairs competition on Wednesday 31st July.  Nearest the pin competitions on 2nd & 6th and was won on both occasions by Chis Cowell. The runners up with 64 points were Chris Cowell & Danny Daniel The winners of The Shillings Shield with 67 points were Ray Pescud & Paul Goddard, which was a very good score in the blustery winds and rain at the end of the round.

Seniors Captains Day Out

March Seniors Golf Club had their Captain’s day out at Spalding Golf club this year a great day was had by all, after a hard fought stapleford competition 1st place went to Les Forrester with 38 point’s, 2nd place with 36 point’s was Tom Dean, 3rd with 34 points was local Spalding player Paul Emmington, Les Forrester & Jock Findlay won the Blind pair’s. A big thank you goes to the staff at Spalding for a great day of golf.

Win for the Home Side

March mixed played a friendly at Ramsey on Sunday 4th August.  Four pairs took part and unfortunately Ramsey were the better team on the day winning by 3 games to 1.  A great meal was enjoyed after play and for Ramsey’s great hospitality.

The Sarah Oldham Salvers

The Ladies played for the Sarah Oldham Salver on Thursday 1st August which was very well supported on a bright warm day. In first place with 35 points were Emma Norman & Jean McAuliffe, 2nd place were Audrey Bond & Pearl Moss with 30 points and in 3rd place Gail Arnold & Jean Alterton with 28 points.  We all gathered in the clubhouse for afternoon tea and was joined by Alex Oldham to present the prizes.  (3rd photo are the runners up Pearl Moss & Audrey Bond & 4th photo winners Emma Norman & Jean McAuliffe below).

July 2019 Results

Old Nene Friendly Ladies

The ladies played a friendly against Old Nene at home on Tuesday 9th July.  The weather was great and it was a really friendly day and the result ended as a half.

The Grannies and Non Grannies Trophies

The ladies played the Grannies/Non Grannies trophy competitions on Thursday 11th July.  A wonderful warm sunny day which was enriched for Carolyn Morton who not only won  with a nett 73 the Grannies trophy but also managed to get a Hole in One on the 15th.
Well done Carolyn. In second place was Sandra Russell with a nett 75 and in 3rd was Pam Wallis with nett 76.  The winner of the Non Grannies trophy was Valerie Cook with 27 points.

Medal Winner

The Ladies played in the Sunday Medal on 14th July.  The winner was Gail Johnson with nett 86, in second place Jo Rowlett with nett 87.

Emma is Single NOW!

On the 16th July the ladies played for the Garthwaite Cup.  The winner was Lady Vice Captain Emma Norman with nett 74 (another fantastic win for Emma) bringing her handicap now to 9.  Well done Emma.  In second place was Jo Rowlett with nett 79 and 3rd place Carolyn Morton with nett 80.

Forrester Triumphs in Papworth Hospital Cup

The seniors played The Papworth Hospital Cup on Wednesday 17th July.  The winner with 40 points was Les Forrester, in 2nd place was Garry Brin (Seniors Captain) also with 40 points and 3rd place went to Paul Goddard with 39 points. Thank you all for helping us to make this event so successful. As a result of your generosity we raised the sum of £405.00 for the Papworth Hospital Charity. We had eighteen participants each donating £12.50, plus donations of £40.00 from non playing members with the balance of £140.00 being made up from the raffle. (Thank you all for your generous donation of prizes.) The par three competition was won by Fred Gordon with a highly commendable 15 points.

Mixed Friendly Win Over St Ives

A Mixed friendly against St Ives was played on Sunday 21st July with 4 pairs taking part.  The match started with a breakfast for all the players in the clubhouse after which the 4 pairs battled a very close match in great sunny weather conditions.   March won the match overall with 2 1/2 games to 1 1/2 games.
