Ely City v MGC (Mixed)

A Mixed team played against Ely Golf Club away on Sunday 17th September. They had a great day although did not come away with a win this time.

 

President's Putter

The annual mixed President's Putter competition was held today in conditions much calmer than those experienced yesterday for the BBQ Cup. Club President, Mr Peter Jones presented the prize to winners Derek (no shoes) Rowlett and Sandra Russell with a most impressive score of 37 points. Runners up with 35 points were Rob Henshaw and Lydia Molyneux. Captain Ivan, thanked all those who participated and urges more members to take part in these events as they are actually fun!!

BBQ Cup

Our intrepid chefs (Messrs Jones, Rowlett, Parrish, Wiggins and Corney) catered for around 80 revellers at this prestigeous club event and It appeared that all had a jolly good time. Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this the best event of the year so far. The golfing element of the day was Championed by Mike Lee with a superb score of 41 points followed by runner-up Ralph Braam (39 pts) and 3rd Callum Campbell (38 pts). Fabulous day all round and a reminder that we indeed have a great club here.

Johnson Goblets

The Johnson Goblets mixed foursomes was played on Wednesday 19th July. There was a reasonable turnout of players and the top three scores all finished on 34 points with the order decided on countback. Having the better back nine holes the goblets were championed by Ken Roberts and Brenda Softley. Well done to them and thank you to everyone who took part.

Mixed Match at Sutton Bridge GC

MGC played in a mixed match away at Sutton Bridge GC today and battled hard in the heat and humidity to secure a 3-3 draw. Thanks to all who played and well done to Emma & Mark, Mick & Sandra and Chris & Penny for winning their matches. The next scheduled mixed match will be away to Ramsey GC on 6th August.

Great news! Today (Sat 24th June) we concluded our last greensomes match with a very well deserved victory 3-1 (6 up, 5 up, 3 up & 8 down). A very welcome and morale boosting win. A very big thank you to those who have supported this team throughout...Well done!

The Cambridgeshire GC v MGC

The men visited The Cambridgeshire Golf Club for the annual friendly match in warm and calm conditions. The match finished 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 in favour of the hosts. The course was in fabulous condition and our opponents welcomed us in good spirit which was enjoyed by all. Thanks, as always, to those who played for MGC especially to Derek Rowlett who stepped up to the plate at short notice.

MGC v Ryston Park (Mixed)

Six pairs enjoyed a beautiful afternoons golf at MGC , a tight match with 2 wins and 2 draws resulting in a 3/3 draw. All enjoyed the golf, the drinks on the patio and the traditional Sunday roast accomapnied, of course with excellent company! Many thanks to all who supported this fixture, it was a pleasure to play in!

MGC v Girton

The men of March took on a high spirited team from Girton GC and battled well to win 3-1. All matches were played in great spirit and Girton proved to be perfect guests. I must thank all who played for MGC especially Steve Parrish, Ken Roberts, Mark Athow and Danny Daniel who stepped up to the plate late on to ensure the match could be played. Thanks guys!

MGC v St Ives

The club played its first mixed match today at home to St. Ives. The weather was fantastic and all matches played in great spirit. Unfortunately we came up short losing 4-2. Thanks to all who played, especially Del and Jo Rowlett who kindly stepped in at the 11th hour to play due to an unexpected call away for another pair.

CAGU Interclub Match v Lakeside

The CAGU interclub match against Lakeside Lodge ended in a 2-2 draw, so well done to Mick Russell and the lads for a good result away from home.

MGC v Lakeside

The men of March competed in the second friendly match of the season at home against Lakeside Lodge GC on the 31st March. The result was an honourable 2-2 draw. Huge thanks to all who made themselves available for the match; Messrs Russell, Lilley, Linley, Fox, Turner, Osbourn & Kaval.
