MGC Seniors' Winter Medal

The seniors played a winter medal on 8th November on a very cold breezy day which resulted in some very fine score. 1st Past Seniors Captain - Derek Wisbey with a nett 69, 2nd Thomas Dean with a nett 70, 3rd John Farnsworth with a nett 72

MGC Seniors v Tydd St Giles

The seniors played a friendly match against Tydd St Giles at home. In his last match as Seniors Captain, Derek Wisbey led his team to a resounding victory 6- 0, their best result of the year.

Seniors 18 Hole Stableford

The seniors section held an 18 hole stableford competition on Monday 18th September in which 17 players took part. Autumn has now started and they found the conditions very cold and damp although this did not last long and it turned out to be a very pleasant day. In third place was Alan Jones with 26 points, Paul Goddard was pipped at the post with 37 points on count back by Mick Russell (Vice Captain) who also had 37 points.

Seniors Open

Seniors Open Friday 25th August:- Eighteen pairs took part in this annual event. The Pairs Better ball Stableford competition was won on countback by Colin With and Sid Eastol with 43 points. Runners up were Derek Wisbey and Alan Hall. Thanks are due to Alex Oldham for all his organisation.

Mickey Dutton-Wells Memorial Trophy

Mickey Dutton-Wells Memorial Trophy, Wed 30th August: Nineteen Seniors took part in this Stableford competition with the winner being Alan Hall with 38 points. Runners up were Les Forrester with 37 points and John Taylor with 36 points.

Seniors v Girton GC

March Seniors recent short unbeaten run came to an abrupt end when they lost 3.5 - 2.5 at home to Girton GC Seniors.

Shilling Shield

Ten pairs took part in the Shillings Shield combined Stableford competition on Wednesday 2nd August. The winners were Charles Findlay and Richard Leach who narrowly beat Ken Roberts and Ken Leys by two points.

Old Nene's Seniors 25th Anniversary

In extremely difficult windy conditions at Old Nene on Thursday 4th August, a Seniors team of Derek Wisbey (Captain), Danny Daniel, Garry Brinn and Paul Goddard won Old Nene's Seniors 25th Anniversary Invitation event beating six other local teams. With two to score on each hole and all to score on the par threes they amassed 96 points beating their nearest rivals by four points. Garry Brinn also won the nearest the pin in two on the 17th hole.

Seniors v Sutton Bridge GC

Seniors have had a good couple of weeks beating Sutton Bridge at home 5:1 and Old Nene away 3.5:2.5.

Papworth Hospital Cup

The Seniors'Captain thanks all who helped us to make this event so successful. As a result, we raised the magnificent sum of £465.00 for the Papworth Hospital Charity. We had thirty participants each donating £10.00, three donations from non playing members, sundry donations of £13.00 and a splendid £122.00 from the raffle. (Thank you all for donating the prizes.). Congratulations are due to Danny Daniel for his narrow victory. He, Alan Jones and Paul Goddard each had 38 points, but his 21 on the back nine won him the trophy on countback.

Sutton Bridge GC v MGC Seniors

The Seniors match at Sutton Bridge was abandoned yesterday at the 13th hole as a result of the incessant rain. At the time of abandonment we had already lost one pairing but were up in four and down in one but we called it an honourable draw!

St Ives GC v MGC Seniors

The Seniors unbeaten run came to an end this week when they lost 4-2 away at St Ives.

Thorney Lakes v MGC Seniors

Result: 3-3 so losing their 100% winning record. Seniors Captain remains unbeaten but, by the same token, he has not won a match either having halved all three so far!

MGC Seniors v Ryston Park

On Monday 10th April, March Seniors hosted Ryston Seniors Golf Club and March won 5½ to ½.

Seniors' Matches

The Seniors have started the season in fine form with a couple of wins in the last week, they beat Ramsey 3.5-2.5 last week and Ryston Park by a whopping 5.5 - 0.5 this week.
