The increasing popular 9 hole monthly mixed fun event and barbeque was contested on a beautiful evening on Friday 1st June. 38 players played 9 holes of stableford with many more coming for the barbeque.

The ladies prize was scooped by club secretary Michal Simpson and the spot prize of "nearest in two" at the 14th hole was Brian Curran. The mens' top place went to James Campbell. He had a super round with a brand newset of irons that literally were delivered just a few moments before he teed off!! Runners up spots on 20 points apiece were Simon Moore and "new member"Lewis Rogers. Lewis came back from a "eurovision" start on the first hole to amass his score, whilst a holed 20 foot putt for eagle (did you hear about it?) on the par five thirteenth hole helped Simon consolidate his total. Well done.

It was 4.15am when we left home on 10th May for Captain Mick Russell to complete his Golfathon. It was not a pleasant day the rain was falling and I thought oh no…. hope it doesn’t last……4.40am Mick was greeted by Roger Watts and Derek Wisbey who were first to take a Yomp for the first 18 holes. Finding it hard to keep up with the determination of Mick. After the first 18 Roger set up his burger van outside the clubhouse to serve bacon rolls to those helping out with the Golfathon.

It's wonderful to start any sport at a very young age, especially when being taught by a professional instructor. The Captains 4BBB competition with 52 participants took place on Saturday 24th in spring-like conditions.  The scores reflected a very good round of golf with the winners P Turner & Chairman B Cracknell coming in with a total of 45 points, 2nd was B Newstead and D Ladd with 44 points, 3rd (on count back) P Smith and S Canavan with 43 points ahead of  D Boughton & R Pescud 43 points (on count back) from D Wisbey & A Jones again with 43 points.  A sum of £65 was donated by participants for the Captain's Charity.

We are now leading up the the start of the season and our Easter competitions - Town v Country and mixed Texas Scramble which will be played on Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively.  Results will be posted in the next week.
The Ladies played their first friendly match of the season on 22nd March on a very sunny bright day at Brampton Park. 4 pairs played fourball betterball match play which resulted in a win for Brampton 2 1/2 to 1 1/2. This was followed by a very tasty meal and refreshments in the club house. Our thanks to Brampton for their hospitality.
The March Seniors played the CAGU seniors knock out at Saffron Walden on Friday 16th March in glorious weather. The match came down to the very last hole of the very last match, unfortunately resulting in a loss to March.

March Golf Club took part in the 1st round of the Daily Mail Foursomes on Monday 5th March against Lakside Lodge at home.  After a very close round and 23 holes of golf the home team were victorious and now go through to the next round.  Good luck to Captain Mick Russell & Gary Brinn.

The March Men had their first friendly match of the season against Sutton Bridge which was enjoyed by all under very good conditions considering the inclement weather in the last 10 days. It was a very closely fought match which resulted in March winning 2 1/2 to 1 1/2.  Captain Mick Russell was elated with the result and thanked his team for their support which he hopes will continue throughout the season.

Ladies Coffee Morning 2018
The Ladies had their annual coffee morning to start the season on Tuesday 6th March.  There was a great turn out where Lady Captain Lydia Molyneux gave an introduction to her Lady's Charity which is the Air Ambulance this year.  She also recognised Gail Arnold as the player who had the best scores throughout the year for medals which entitles her to go through to a regional final organised by England Golf for the Chase Your Dream Trophy.  Good luck in the next round Gail. We all look forward to a great season of golf in 2018.

Saturday 27th January saw over 80 attend the traditional Burns Night Dinner at March Golf Club.  Doug started the proceedings by blessing the Haggis before it was consumed........The traditional raising of the glass of whiskey was welcomed by those who part-took in donating a fee for each tot of whiskey consumed which raised a total of £94.40 for the Captains Charity.  The evening proceeded with dancing to Back Two and all had a great evening.  We hold many functions during the year which are all very well supported.  Mothering Sunday lunch is being held on Sunday 11th March which is open to all but does need to be pre-booked through our Club Secretary.
