On Tuesday 12th November Past Lady Captain 2018 of March Golf Club in 2018, Lydia Molyneux, met with Tammy Swiderski from the East Anglian Air Ambulance. Lydia wanted to present a cheque for £1,353.75 which was raised during her captaincy year for this important local charity.
Lydia “I chose to support East Anglian Air Ambulance because I felt that it was a service that any one of us could need at any time, not just for those suffering from ill health. Having lost a close friend in tragic circumstances in 2017, it made me realise how important services like this are to our community. Although the EAAA receives some Government funding, they rely predominantly on the goodwill of the community. If all of us gave £3 per year they would be able to fund their basic needs. Tammy told me that just one helmet costs £2,000, so my donation, will go some way to providing one of those but it is only a small gesture when you consider the demands made upon the service.”
Cambridge Evening News Winter Foursomes
On Tuesday 12th November 2019 Derek Wisbey and Danny Daniel played Peter Mansfield and Micheal Drakakis from Newmarket GC in the first round of the Cambridge Evening News Winter Foursomes competition at Ely GC. The weather was atrocious but the company was really good and the match was played in good spirit. It was a very close match and a shame somebody had to win but March Golf Club came through to win on the final hole. The second round will be drawn sometime in December.
Monday 30th September March Golf Club
Are you aged 55+? Retired or semi-retired? Bored with daytime TV? Feel you need more exercise but can’t face going to the gym? Enjoy the company of like-minded re-cycled teenagers? Played golf many years ago but work and family commitments got in the way, or never held a golf club in your life?
If the answer to all (or at least some) of these questions is yes, then we might just have the answer for you at March Golf Club.
The Men’s senior section at March Golf Club meets three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Mondays and Fridays are ‘roll-ups’ – all welcome, you just turn up at 7.45, draw partners and play. Various types of informal competitions are played on these days.
Wednesday is competition day where more ‘serious’ competitions are played and when we also play most of our friendly matches in the summer against other local clubs. Friendly matches are for golfers of all standards so new members are very welcome.
If your golf is a little rusty, or you have never played before, we have a PGA resident professional on site with whom you can book a course of lessons and buy all your equipment, and an excellent practice facility available to you to use in order to improve your game.
We currently have a full driving range, practice putting green, practice chipping green, practice bunker and a three-hole pitch and putt course. The club is also intending to raise sufficient money to fund a covered driving range in the near future. In short, everything you would need to learn the game and become a better golfer.
Having launched a Junior and Ladies Academy in 2018, we are intending to widen our offering to encourage older golfers to take-up the game.
We will therefore be running a men’s Senior’s open morning on Monday 30thSeptember from 10.00 (gather at 9.45) until 12.30 where you will have the opportunity to use the practice facilities under the expert eye of our resident professional, Alex Oldham, assisted by trained Academy volunteers. We will also be offering a golfing taster session with the opportunity for you to use the pitch and putt course or play a few holes on the main course.
Bring your own clubs if you have them – equipment can be provided if you do not. Sensible walking shoes would also be advisable – trainers would be fine.
After golf, you will also be made very welcome in the clubhouse at lunchtime where light refreshments will be available.
If you would like to take advantage of this offer, contact Alex, our club professional, on 01354 657255 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
You can be sure of a warm welcome.
