CAGU Greensomes League (Saturday 16th March)
In the opening club match of the golfing season, the team from March Golf Club battled to a hard-earned draw against a strong team from St Ives Golf Club. The match was in the balance through to the very last pairing who secured a win on the seventeenth hole to tie the match.
The weather played a big part in making it an exciting encounter. Wind gusts in excess of 40mph do not make the game easy for anyone, but both teams ‘stuck at it’ and the result was very fair on both sides.
Club Captain, Alan Jones, thanked both teams afterwards for a competitive match played in good spirit. He also thanked the members of the March team. They were Chris Elliott, Derek Wisbey, Mick Russell, Mark Athow, Simon Moore, Brian Newstead, Baz Smith and Ray Pescud … turning out to represent the club in such challenging conditions.
Pictured, both teams gathered at the 19th hole for a well-deserved drink at the end of the match.
A bottle of wine was presented to the winner of ‘nearest the pin’ on the 200 yard par 3 18th hole. A magnificent shot to about 12 feet secured the prize for Simon Moore from the home team.
