Captains Day 2019

The annual Captain’s Day competition was held at March Golf Club on Saturday 21st September. Sixty-two golfers took part in an open stableford competition which was played in glorious weather conditions. The day proved to be very competitive with many golfers returning good scores.

In the end, the main competition was won by Neil Traylen with 40 points, closely followed by the runner-up Gary Wiggins with 39 points. Third was June Count with 37 points and fourth was Emma Smith with 36 points.

Various other prizes were also on offer on the day. Nearest the pin on the par 3 second hole was won by Carl Barnes, with Nigel Goude winning the prize on the sixth hole and Mark Crawley on the ninth hole, despite a very difficult pin position.

The longest drive on the tenth hole was won by Thomas Chegwidden and the straightest drive on the eighth hole was won by Alex Wilson-Pearce.

Cash prizes were also won by any golfer scoring a two in their round and six competitors achieved that score (Derek Wisbey, Danny Daniel, Carl Barnes, Lady Captain Sandra Russell, Gary Wiggins and Thomas Chegwidden).

Club Captain, Alan Jones, would like to thank all those who supported him by playing on the day and sends his congratulations to all the winners. He would also like to thank Club Professional, Alex Oldham, for his organisational skills and Competitions Secretary, Derek Wisbey, for processing the scores. Alan would also like to say a big thank you to the greenkeeping staff at March Golf Club who presented the course in magnificent condition.
