Sandra and Alan would like to say thank you to the 55 members who played in the Captains’ Drive-in competition on Saturday. A dry day and full greens were appreciated by all.
In the Men’s competition, the winner was Nick Carter with a magnificent 46 points, runner-up was Mark Crawley with a very creditable 40 points and third was Alan Hall on 38 points (ocb from Alan Jones).
In the Ladies competition, the clear winner was Michal Simpson with an excellent 36 points followed by Carole Wood with 31 points.
Nearest the pin on the 9th / 18th was Sandra Russell with a superb shot to about three feet, winning a very drinkable bottle of red wine in the process.
Congratulations to all the golfing winners.
In the Drive-in sweeps, the Club Captain’s sweep was won by Alan Hall who successfully predicted that Alan would drive 207 yards into the left-side rough! The winner in the Lady Captain’s sweep was Jean Arterton who, more predictably, forecast that Sandra would hit her drive 137 yards straight down the middle.
However, the biggest winner on the day was the two Captain’s charities. A little over £100 was raised to be split equally between Sandra’s charity (raising money for research into infant mortality) and Alan’s project (to raise the finances to build a covered driving range on the practice ground). Many thanks to all those who contributed. If you missed out on Saturday, or are keen to contribute more, the Captains’ Charity boxes on the bar will happily accept your £1 if you are unfortunate enough to finish in one of the nominated bunkers on the sixth and ninth holes!
A final thanks to Alex for organising the competition cards and prizes, to Derek Wisbey for handling the results and to the caterers for the welcome refreshments half-way round.
